A water tanker hit a Qatar Airways plane at the Kolkata Airport last night, around 2:30 A.M. The flight had 103 passengers onboard, travelling from Kolkata to Doha.
The flight was about to take off when a water tanker hit the aircraft and damaged its belly.
All the passengers were safely taken out of the vessel, after which it was sent for inspection.
An Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said, “No one was hurt in the accident.” He further added, “All 103 passengers of the flight have been provided accommodation at a nearby hotel. They will be taking the 3:00 A.M., flight to Doha tomorrow (Friday.)”
The Directorate General of the Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered for the launch of an investigation to look into the incident.
According to the initial reports, the brakes of the water tanker were not functioning properly. The driver controlling the vehicle was suspended immediately.
Sources from the DGCA said the investigation is going on and the appropriate measures will be taken.
