On the night of the 7th of August, an Air India Express Boeing 737-800, flight carrying 190 people on board crashed.
The plane crashed while landing at Kozhikode Airport, Kerala.
According to sources, of the total onboard, 3 people including the pilot of the Air India Express flight are said to be dead.
The flight had 184 passengers and 6 crew members on the Dubai-Kerala flight.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Agarwal, the Consul – Press, Information and Culture at the Indian Consulate in Dubai, said, “The flight was carrying 174 adults and 10 infants. Majority of the passengers were families, and it included 128 male and 46 female passengers.”
As many as 80 people are said to be severely injured.
The Air India Express was flying from Dubai under India’s Vande Bharat Mission, rescuing citizens of India from Dubai.
The aircraft departed from Dubai Airport at 02:14 P.M.
P.G. Prageesh, the Chief of Corporate Communications of Air India Express, said, “As per the primary information, there were 184 passengers on board the flight. The aircraft skidded off the runaway and fell into a valley situated near the airport. Rescue operations are underway.”
Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, took to Twitter and said, “Have instructed Police and Fire Force to take urgent action in the wake of the plane crash at the Kozhikode International airport (CCJ) in Karipur. Have also directed the officials to make necessary arrangements for rescue and medical support.”
Fire tenders and ambulances rushed to the spot at Calicut, where it crashed while landing.
