The All India Mahila Congress which is the women’s wing of the Congress party launched an online campaign attacking Prime Minister Modi. The campaign launched by the organisation is on the 33% reservation bill for women. The campaign was launched on social media platforms with the hashtag #ModiStallWomen.

Head of Social Media Department at Mahila Congress Chitra Sarwara said, “We plan to corner the ruling party and force them to acknowledge the issue and introduce the women’s reservation bill in Parliament.” A similar campaign was launched in May last year with the hashtag #WomenFor33.

After the signature campaign, Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev submitted a petition to the President of India in October 2017. The petition requested the President to reintroduce the women’s quota bill and pass in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

Dev was quoted saying, “BJP had promised in its 2014 manifesto that it will bring 33% reservation to empower women but despite heavy majority in last three years, this matter is yet to be addressed. The online campaign is a part of our ongoing efforts to ensure #WomenFor33 bill is tabled and passed in the Parliament at the earliest.”

The Mahila Congress plans to organise multiple events in India to put pressure on the Central Government on the issue of the women’s reservation bill.
