Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for a number of services. The 12 digit identification card needs to be linked to your mobile number. If you fail to link it your number, it will be disconnected after 31st March 2018.

At present, the Government announced six documents need to be linked to the Aadhaar card. They are: Pan card, Voter ID, Bank accounts, Ration card, mobile number and LPG connection card.

The Aadhaar card has become a compulsory identification document for all Indian citizens. Many have lost their ration cards in Jharkhand after failing to link the Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar is also mandatory for availing a number of services.

Financial purposes:

  1. A person can open a bank account without an Aadhaar card but will have to submit the 12 digit identification card in 6 months. Failing to do so will result in the bank shutting the account down.
  2. To make cash transactions of over Rs. 50,000 will require an Aadhaar card and Pan card.
  3. All Pan cards need to be linked to the Aadhaar card to keep track of transactions below Rs. 50,000.  

Healthcare Purposes:

  1. The Aadhaar has been made compulsory to become a trained female community health activist, ASHA or Accredited Social Health Activist.
  2. An online appointment with an AIIMS doctor is not possible without the Aadhaar card.    
  3. The Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) makes Aadhaar card a must for tuberculosis treatment.
  4. To avail the Centre’s Integrated Child Development Services, an Aadhaar card is required.
  5. Citizens enrolled with the Mid Day scheme will also need an Aadhaar card.
  6. Benefits for women under the Janani Suraksha Yojana will also require an Aadhaar card.
  7. All women seeking financial support under National Mission for Empowerment of Women will have to show Aadhaar card for identification.

Welfare Schemes:

  1. Any kind of subsidies from the government can be availed only with an Aadhaar card.
  2. The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme, Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana and National Rural Livelihoods Mission programs all require an Aadhaar card.
  3. Students will require an Aadhaar card to get scholarships from the Central Government.
  4. Disabled Children under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan will also need an Aadhaar card.
  5. Even the Bhopal gas tragedy victims of 1984 must submit their Aadhaar cards to continue receiving compensation from the government.
