Army Chief General Bipin Rawat is going to be the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS,) a new position established by the Central Government, of India.

After retiring from the position of Army Chief, General Rawat would become the CDS, who would be the military adviser to the Union Defence Ministry on all matters pertaining to the Country’s armed forces’ tri services.

General Rawat would work closely with Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India, on several issues regarding security and defence.

According to sources, tri service agencies, organisations and commands related to cyber and space would be under the new CDS, General Bipin Rawat.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat is scheduled to retire on the 31st of December, 2019, after serving for 3 years.

Soon after his retirement as the Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat would take over as the Chief of Defence Staff.
