Arun Jaitley, the former Finance Minister of India, passed away, on the 24th of August, at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Delhi.
Jaitley, 66 years old, was admitted to AIIMS on the 9th of August after he complained about breathing problems and weakness. He was under the supervision of multidisciplinary doctors such as cardiologists (heart specialists,) endocrinologists (endocrine glands specialists) and nephrologists (kidney specialists.)
Before his demise, Arun Jaitley’s condition was said to be critical and he was put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO.) The ECMO is used on someone whose heart and lungs are incapable of functioning by themselves.
The news of Jaitley’s death was confirmed by the AIIMS, which released a statement regarding Jaitley’s death. The statement read, ““It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and former Finance Minister Government of India at 12:07 pm on August 24, 2019. Arun Jaitley was admitted in AIIMS, New Delhi, on 09/08/2019 and was treated by a multidisciplinary team of senior Doctors.”
In the past, Jaitley suffered from multiple diseases like diabetes and blood pressure problems. He also had bariatric surgery in 2014 to lose extra weight and a Kidney transplant in 2018.
Due to his health issues, he did not even contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India and other Union ministers express their condolences to the family of Jaitley.
