Amid Diwali celebrations in India, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, made a suggestion to Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India.
On the 26th of October, Wednesday, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal appealed to the Central Government to include pictures of Hindu deities Lakshmi and Ganesh on Indian currency notes.
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that including the photos of the God and Goddess alongside that of Mahatma Gandhi would bring prosperity to India. He further clarified that he is not asking to remove the image of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi from notes, but to add images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. He further said, “Every day new currency notes are printed. These pictures can be added then.”
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “If there is a photo of Lakshmi-Ganesha on our currency (notes,) our country will prosper. I will write to (the) Prime Minister in a day or two on this.” He further cited Indonesia, which has an image of Lord Ganesha on their currency and said, “When Indonesia can, why can’t we?”
The reason for this suggestion of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal is said to be the unstable economic situation and the depreciating Indian Rupee against the United States Dollar (USD.)
