Assembly Elections In Four States And One UT Is Underway

Four states and one union territory (UT) are conducting Assembly polls. Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are the five regions of India conducting Assembly polls. 

The voting in all the four states and one union territory started at 8:00 A.M., and would continue till 5:00 P.M.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI,) the voter turnout in assembly elections till 9:54 A.M., was 15.33% in Kerala, 6.58% in Tamil Nadu, 6.58% in Puducherry, 14.62% in West Bengal and 12.83% in Assam.

Several leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged voters to cast their votes.

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also appealed to the voters in the four states and one Union Territory to exercise their franchise in record the highest number of voters turnout.

While Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry’s single phase polling is underway, West Bengal and Assam are conducting second and third phase of the Assembly elections, respectively.

The polling in West Bengal and Assam commenced from the 27th of March.

All the states and UT are conducting polls for 31 seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, 40 seats in Assam and 30 seats in the Union Territory of Puducherry. With this, elections for Tamil Nadu, Assam Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry ends today. However, five phases of the Assembly polls are yet to be conducted in West Bengal. The West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled on the 10th, the 17th, the 22nd, the 26th and the 29th of April.

The results of Assembly elections in all the states and UTs would be announced on the 2nd of May.
