The Supreme Court (SC) is conducting daily hearings regarding the long standing Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute case in Ayodhya.

Ranjan Gogoi, the Chief Justice of India (CJI,) on the 15th of October, directed the panel reviewing the case to conclude the case on the 16th of October.

As per the orders of CJI Gogoi, the SC is likely to announce its verdict about the years old Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute case.

On the 18th of September, the SC set a deadline of the 18th of October to resolve the case and also directed regular hearings.  The SC decided to set a deadline as Ranjan Gogoi, the Chief Justice of India (CJI,) is going to retire on the 17th of November 2019.

K. Parasaran, the advocate representing the Hindus, said, “Muslims can pray in any other mosque as well. There are 55 to 60 mosques in Ayodhya alone. But for Hindus, it is the birthplace of Lord Ram. We can’t change the birthplace.”

A five judge bench headed by Ranjan Gogoi is conducting day to day proceedings, which entered their 40th day on the 16th of October.  The bench of judges comprises CJI Ranjan Gogoi, Justice S.A. Bobde, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S.A. Nazeer.

In the wake of the Ayodhya case hearing, the Uttar Pradesh Government imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Ayodhya, which restricts any public gatherings.
