The Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai would be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. He took the oath of office at 11:00 A.M., today, the 28th of July.

Ahead of the oath taking ceremony, Basavaraj Bommai met the BJP’s Central Observer Dharmendra Pradhan and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in Bengaluru.

Bommai also offered prayers at Bhagavan Sri Maruthi Temple in Bengaluru ahead of his swearing in.

After the oath taking ceremony, the new Karnataka CM is likely to chair a meeting. In regard to this, Basavaraj Bommai said, “I will chair a meeting of the Cabinet later today. After that, I will hold a meeting with senior officers to review Covid-19 and the flood situation in the State.”

Basavaraj S. Bommai became the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka, after the recent resignation of B.S. Yediyurappa.

Recently, on the 26th of July, the former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediurppa submitted his resignation. Soon after accepting the resignation of Mr. Yediyurappa, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) elected Basavaraj Bommami.

The announcement was made by the BJP Observer for the State and the Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, during a meeting of Karnataka BJP Legislative Party. The meeting was held at the Legislative Party office in Bengaluru.

Dharmendra Pradhan and G. Kishan Reddy — BJP’s Karnataka in charge, Arun Singh, B.S. Yediyurappa, Basavaraj Bommai, Jagadish Shettar and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were present at the meeting.

Meanwhile, due to the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, the oath taking ceremony was organised as a low key affair. The Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Senior leaders of the BJP, MLAs and other officials attended the event at the Glass House of the Karnataka Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.
