Bhupesh Baghel, the President of the Chhattisgarh Congress, will be sworn in as the Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, today.

Mallikarjun Kharge, a senior Congress leader, announced the name of Bhupesh Baghel as the CM after an Assembly meeting held at the Party headquarters, on Sunday. A total of 68 legislative members nominated Bhupesh Baghel as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.

Bhupesh Baghel will take oath as the CM, today, at 4:00 P.M. Some prominent leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Manmohan Singh will witness the oath taking ceremony at Science College Grounds, Raipur.

Mr. Baghel, a member of the Kurmi community, after being elected as the CM, addressed the media and spoke about his priorities as the CM. With regard this, he said, “Our first priority is to waive off the loans of farmers as our party president Rahul Gandhi had promised in the campaign rallies. Second will be to procure paddy crops on increased minimum support price (MSP) as promised in our party’s manifesto. We will impose a ban on outsourcing in government jobs with proper planning to facilitate more job creations. Congress government will also work on a new development policy for tribal people. We would also address all the issues of government employees including the Police.”

The Congress won a total of 68 Assembly seats out of the 90 seats in the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections held in two phases, on the 12th and 20th of November. The results for the same were announced on the 11th of December and marked the victory of the Congress party against the Bharatiya Janata Party.
