Biplab Kumar Deb Sworn In As Chief Minister of Tripura

Today, Biplab Kumar Deb was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tripura. This comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party formed a Government in the Northeastern State for the first time. The swearing in ceremony began at noon in Agartala.

The ceremony was held at the Assam Rifles Ground in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP Chief Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Senior BJP leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi were also present at the event.

A member of the BJP family Jishnu Deb Burman took the oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura. BJP’s ally the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) was given two seats in the 12 member ministry of the new Government. However, the IPFT had asked for four seats since they won 8 out of 9 seats in the tribal areas.

After being sworn in the new CM of Tripura Deb said, “Treat me as your son, brother, not as the CM,” said Mr. Deb to 3.7 million people in Tripura after taking charge. “Pull my ears to put me on the right track if I err in providing you good governance.”

PM Modi spoke at the ceremony and said the Left Front leaders can guide the newly formed Government. Party Chief Amit Shah said winning in Tripura made BJP stronger and closer to their goal of ruling the Northeast states.
