Sambit Patra, one of the spokespersons of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) criticised Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

The BJP leaders, on the 29th of January, addressed a press conference and took a dig at the Mamata Banerjee led the Trinamool Congress (TMC.) Sambit Patra compared Banerjee to a Taliban leader and said, Mamata Banerjee is behaving like a ‘Talibani Didi.’

Amit Shah, the President of the BJP, conducted a rally, on the 29th of January, in East Midnapore, West Bengal, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. After the rally ended, a few TMC activists protested against the BJP supporters and Party members. The TMC supporters vandalised the BJP members’ bus while the latter were returning from the rally. The TMC members also attacked the BJP workers.

The BJP members said, the TMC activists also set ablaze their vehicles, pelted stones at them and protested against the BJP. The activists continued the violence till late evening until security officials were deployed to control the situation. As a security measure, the security officials blocked the highways.

According to sources, a few policemen were attacked and three were injured. Apart from this, a lot more damage was evident after the BJP rally ended.

Sambita, referring to the violent incident, said, “TMC has now become Talibani Mamatar Karmo.” He further said, “Talibani forces are active in Bengal under Mamata Banerjee. Today’s ( the 29th of January) incident has proved it.”

Speaking about Mamata Banerjee, Mr. Patra said, “The way stones were pelted, buses were vandalised and set ablaze, shows what kind of situation is prevailing in West Bengal. This is the real face of Mamata Banerjee.”

Patra went on with his criticism and raised a question to the TMC leaders. He asked them, “Will you save democracy by vandalising buses and setting ablaze them?” Patra further added, “We will not bow to this kind of threat.”

The TMC blamed the BJP for the violence and accused them of disturbing the harmony in West Bengal. The TMC members said, the BJP pre planned the violence and came with bricks and lathis to attack.

Rajnath Singh, the Union Home Minister, was angry over the violence and asked for a detailed report against the people who are responsible for the violence in the State. He gave the State Government a deadline of 24 hours to submit the report to him.

The BJP organised the rally ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled between April and May 2019.
