Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa, the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, will conduct a no confidence motion on the 29th of July.

B.S. Yediyurappa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on the 26th of July, at 6:00 P.M., in the presence of Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Vala and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

After the resignation of H.D. Kumaraswamy, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Yediyurappa, without any delay, requested the Governor to allow him to take the oath of office and form the Government.

However, due to the disqualification of 3 rebel Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) the total strength of the MLAs fell down to 220. As per the legislative rule, to form the State Government, the concerned Party has to mark the majority, which is 110 MLAs.

Despite defeating the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S]) in the trust vote, the BJP’s power in the State is not yet confirmed.

The victory of the BJP depends upon K.R. Ramesh Kumar, the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly, who is yet to decide about the resignations submitted by the rebel MLAs.

If Ramesh Kumar disqualifies the MLAs, then the strength of the JD(S) will fall to 34 MLAs, which will be beneficial for the BJP, which has 105 MLAs in the Assembly.

The disqualification of the MLAs will act as a boon for Yediyurappa as he can enjoy the CM’s position until fresh elections are held to fill vacancies of the disqualified MLAs.

Recently, on the 25th of July, Ramesh disqualified 3 MLAs of the Indian National Congress (INC,) Ramesh Jharkiholi, Mahesh Kumatahalli and R. Shankar, as per the Anti Defection Law.

The no confidence motion will be held on the 29th of July, at 10:00 A.M., at Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka.

Stay tuned for further updates.
