Six Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) on the 17th of September, joined the Indian National Congress (INC) in Rajasthan.
The BSP MLAs, at midnight, submitted a letter to C.P. Joshi, the Assembly Speaker of Rajasthan, regarding their decision to switch parties.
While the joining of the BSP MLAs is a major advantage for the INC in Rajasthan, it is a drawback for the BSP ahead of the Rajasthan Municipal elections and Panchayat elections.
One of the MLAs who joined the INC, Rajendra Gudd, said the decision to join the Party was taken to ensure growth, development and stability in the State, under the rule of the INC.
Mr. Gudd said, “We took a decision in order to fight against communal forces and to work for the development of the State and stability of the Government. Ashok ji is the best Chief Minister and no one can be better than him for Rajasthan. I was impressed with his style of working and polity.” He further said, “We have given our resignation letter and also met C.P. Joshi ji and Ashok ji today. There were several challenges in front of us. On one hand, we were supporting Congress for the development of the state and on the other, we were fighting against them in elections. We all gave a thought to it. We took a decision in favour of the State.”
Apart from Rajendra Gudd, Jogendra Singh Awana, Wajib Ali, Lakhan Singh, Sandeep Yadav and Deepchand also joined the INC in Rajasthan.
With the addition of the BSP MLAs, INC has a total of 118 MLAs in the Assembly, out of a total of 200 members.
