BSY Government Put To The Floor Test Today

Today, the B. S. Yeddyurappa Government will be put to the floor test to prove their majority support in the Assembly. The Supreme Court ordered a floor test today for the BJP to prove their majority in the Karnataka Assembly. The floor test is expected to begin at 4 P.M., today. The one day old B. S. Yeddyurappa Government is keen on keeping their power in the State.

A floor test is for the party called on by the Governor to form the Government even without majority seats. The test would involve the party proving its majority on the floor of the Assembly of the State.

This comes after B. S. Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka even without majority seats by the Karnataka Governor.

On Friday, the Apex Court heard the arguments for and against the petition filed by the JD(S) and the Congress. The two parties approached the top Court after Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala called BJP to form the Government in the State.

Former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi appeared on behalf of the BJP requested the Court for time till Monday. However, the Court refused this request and demanded the floor test happen tomorrow at 4:00 P.M.

The Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs were shifted to Hyderabad late on Thursday night. Three buses carrying 116 Karnataka lawmakers left Bengaluru at 12:15 A.M., last night.

The BJP requires another 8 seats to prove its majority. To protect the MLAs from the BJP’s offers the Congress and JD(S) planned to keep their MLAs away from the BJP’s prying eye. The lawmakers were made to switch buses during the journey for security reasons.

The Congress and JD(S) have claimed the BJP have bribed and threatened lawmakers. The Congress party has made all its Karnataka MLAs to download an app that allows the leaders to track and record phone calls.

The voting for the 222 seats was held on Saturday and one of the Constituency’s polling was canceled after the BJP candidate suddenly passed away. The BJP party secured 104 seats and one independent seat support while the majority required to form a government in 112 seats.

The Congress secured 77 seats and the JD(S) won 39 seats and decided to form an alliance to form a coalition Government. However, the decision left for the Karnataka Governor from BJP decided to give his party the opportunity to prove their majority.
