Cauvery Protests: CSK IPL Matches To Be Held In Pune

The remaining IPL matches of the Chennai Super Kings will be shifted to Pune in the wake of the Cauvery protests in Chennai.

On Wednesday, IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla said, “CSK will be asked to move their home matches to Pune as the Chennai police have expressed their inability to provide adequate security for the remaining matches.”

Earlier, CSK Chief Executive Officer K. S. Viswanathan said, “We talked to the Chennai’s Commissioner of Police over the issue. He suggested we shift the matches as the situation is volatile in the city.”

He further added, “We have put the ball in BCCI’s court and the board will now take a call on the issue.”

Various Tamil groups and political parties demanded the IPL matches be canceled until the Cauvery Management Board is formed.

On Tuesday, thousands gathered outside the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai demanding the Center to form a Cauvery Board. The toss for the match was delayed by 13 minutes as the match officials struggled to enter the arena due to the protestors.

Things got worse when a shoe was thrown at South African Captain Faf du Plessis. Fortunately, Plessis was not hit by the shoe and the two culprits were immediately arrested. The police also arrested three others who were raising “We want Cauvery” slogans.
