Six people were injured in a Maoist attack in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, today, around 9:00 A.M.

The Maoists placed an explosive device on a truck, which resulted in a severe blast and left six people injured.

The injured men were rushed to a nearby hospital and are out of danger. The injured included 4 BSF jawans, 1 security personnel and 1 civilian.

Sundarraj P., the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Anti Naxal Operations, said, “Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, belonging to 414th battalion, a District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan, and a civilian, who was driving the vehicle, received injuries in the improvised explosive device (IED) blast.”

Reinforcement teams rushed to the spot and a search operation was launched immediately in the affected region of Bijapur Ghati, 450 kilometres from Raipur.

This is the second attack by the Maoists to boycott the Chhattisgarh polls. Recently, another explosion took place in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, which killed 5 BSF jawans and a civilian.

The first phase of the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections took place on Monday, with a voter turnout of 76 %. The second phase is scheduled on the 20th of November and the results will be declared on the 11th of December.
