Maulana Saad, the Chief of the Tablighi Jamaat Congregation, on the 23rd of April, completed his 14 day quarantine period and took the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection test.

Fuzail Ayubbi, the lawyer of Maulana Saad, confirmed the news and said, “He has completed his quarantine and undergone a test.  The report is awaited.”

Meanwhile a case has been registered against Maulana Saad related to the recent Tablighi Jamaat Congregation event at Markaz Mosque, Nizamuddin, Delhi amid the spread of COVID-19.

On the 4th of April, the Delhi Police launched a probe against the event and Maulana Saad.  The Markaza event was highlighted as it became the epicentre for the spread of the virus.

Speaking about the procedure of the case and updates on investigation, Mr. Ayubbi said, “The Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) does not ask someone to go and present himself that ‘ok, here I am’.  There are steps to be taken by the police, and those steps have already been taken even during his quarantine.”  He further added, “His house was searched in the presence of his son.  He got two notices and he responded to those notices.  He was asked to undergo the test, and he has undergone the test.”

While the Central Government held the Markaz event responsible for the spike in numbers of the Coronavirus cases in India, Maulana Saad said an overwhelming majority of the group’s members tested negative and asked “Does that make Markaz responsible for the disease?”

However, holding Maula Saad responsible for the event and making Markaz mosque an epicentre of the virus, a Delhi police official who wished to be anonymous, said the department has filed a case against Maulana Saad under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

An investigation regarding the case is underway.
