After Indian Council of Medical Research Council (ICMR,) declared COVID-19 Antibody rapid blood test kits for Coronavirus faulty, the Chinese Government responded and said India to be irresponsible
China said “The quality of medical products exported from China is prioritised. It is unfair and irresponsible for certain individuals to label Chinese products as ‘faulty’ and look at issues with pre emptive prejudice.”
In a statement released on the morning of the 28th of April, Ji Rong, the Spokesperson of Chinese embassy said, “We are deeply concerned with the evaluation results and the decision made by ICMR.” In addition, she said, “Any operation which is not carried out by professionals in accordance with the product specifications will lead to the testing accuracy variations.”
The statement of Chinese Government came after the ICMR issued an advisory for the state governments and asked them to stop using the Antibody rapid test kits exported from China.
On the 27th of April, kits from China based company Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech and Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics were showing wide variations. Due to the variations in results the ICMR asked the state governments to stop using the COVID-19 Antibody rapid blood test kits for Coronavirus.
Disappointed with India’s reaction over the kits, Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech company issued a statement which read, “We are currently investigating the ICMR’s concerns with our products and will share more information when it becomes available.”
The Government of India (GoI,) also issued an order stating the orders from these two Chinese firms had been cancelled. The Indian Government exported approximately 5 lakh Rapid Test kits and is keen to return all the faulty kits. The ICMR did not make any payment and is willing to not pay for the faulty kits.
Meanwhile, India is on the edge to cross 30,000 cases of COVID-19. As of 10:00 A.M., on the 28th of April, India reported a total of 29,458 cases of the Novel Coronavirus infection with 7,137 recoveries and 939 deceased.
