On the 22nd of September, Thursday, the Indian National Congress (INC) Central Election Authority, issued an official notification for the Congress Presidential Elections.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) Presidential Polls are scheduled to be held on the 18th of October. As per the official notification, the nomination of the AICC president post would be available from the INC office from the 22nd of September, Thursday, whereas the nominations would be held between the 24th to the 30th of September.
In addition, the scrutiny of nomination would take place on the 1st of October and on the same day, a valid candidate list eligible for the election would be published. The last date of withdrawal from the Presidential Polls nomination would be the 8th of October.
As of now, Mr. Shashi Tharoor and Mr. Ashok Gehlot are expressing interest in contesting the Congress Presidential Elections. In addition, Mr. Suresh Pachauri also met Ms. Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC, in this regard.
This would be the first time in the last 20 years that a non Gandhi would be the next President of the All India Congress Committee. The decision is said to be a major booster for the opposition party in India, resolving internal disputes within the party.
