It is to be noted, the newly approved Corbevax would be given to the people who received two doses of any of the approved, the Serum Institute of India’s Covishield or the Bharat Biotech Private Limited manufactured COVAXIN.  Moreover, the ideal duration gap between the two doses and the booster dose would be six months or 26 weeks.

Getting into the details, the approval for Corbevax was based on the recommendations of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI.)   Furthermore, a source close to the development, wishing anonymity said, “Corbevax will be considered as a precaution dose after completion of six months or 26 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose of either Covaxin or Covishield vaccines for those aged above 18 years enabling use of Corbevax as a heterologous COVID-19 vaccine for precaution dose administration in this age group.”

With this, India now has three vaccines Corbevax, Covishield, and COVAXIN as the booster dose, which has been approved by the Drugs Controllers General of India and the Union Health Ministry.
