COVID-19 Cases India Surpasses China, Reports 85,940 Cases

On the 16th of May, India surpassed China in terms of the positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection.  Till date, China reported 82,941 cases of the Novel Coronavirus.

The rapid increase in the positive cases with a spike in death toll by 103 in just 24 hours is a matter of concern, especially 2 days ahead of the lockdown 4.0.

The Union Health Ministry confirmed the rise in the cases by 3,970  to 85,940  on the morning of the 16th of May.

Out of the total 85,940 cases,  53,035  are active and 30,152 recovered and 2,752 are fatalities so far.  

In regard to the increasing number of cases, Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America (U.S.A.,) decided to donate ventilators to India and help the Country to fight the Novel Coronavirus.

On the 16th of May, Donald Trump took to his Twitter handle and said, “We stand with India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during this pandemic.”

In Maharashtra, the infection cases climbed to 29,100 followed by Tamil Nadu reporting 10,108 cases and Gujarat with 9,932 cases of COVID-19 so far.

The National Capital reported  8,895 cases of the Novel Coronavirus infection.  Other states which have reported more than 4,000 cases are Rajasthan (4,747,) Madhya Pradesh (4,595) and Uttar Pradesh 4,057.)

States and Union Territories that have reported more than 2,000 cases are West Bengal (2,461)  and Andhra Pradesh (2,307.) 

States with cases under 2,000 are Punjab (1,932,) Telangana (1,454,) Karnataka (1,056) Bihar (1,033,) Jammu and Kashmir (1,013,)  Haryana (854,) Odisha (672,)  Kerala (577,) Jharkhand (211,) Chandigarh (191,) Tripura (156,) Assam (90,) Uttarakhand (82) and Himachal Pradesh (75.)

Meanwhile, Globally, 4,628,356 people have been infected and the death toll now stands at 308,645
