On the 5th of June, the 73rd day of the nation wide lockdown named as Unlock 1, India recorded the biggest spike of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection cases.

The Indian Health Ministry on the morning of the 5th of June, confirmed 9,851 fresh cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to  2,26,770 cases.

The 5th of June is the 11th consecutive day of India reporting 7,000 plus single day hikes in just 24 hours.

After Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan were also reported high numbers of COVID-19 cases and are the worst hit due to the Novel Coronavirus.

Maharashtra has 77,793 cases, Tamil Nadu has 27,256 cases, Delhi (25,004) Gujarat (18,609,) Rajasthan (9,862,) Uttar Pradesh (9,237,) Madhya Pradesh (8,762) and West Bengal (6,876.)

Other top states with COVID-19 cases below 5,000 are Bihar (4,452,) Karnataka (4,320,)

Andhra Pradesh(4,112,) Telangana (3,147,) Jammu and Kashmir (3,142,) Haryana (3,281) and Punjab (2,415)

The increase in cases is a matter of concern for the nation, as the Central Government resumed flight and train services.   Under the 1st phase of Unlock 1, religious places, restaurants and shopping malls are also allowed to open from the 8th of June.    On the 4th of June, the Ministry of Home Affairs, released a set of guidelines for all the restaurants, religious places and shopping malls, which would resume functioning from the 8th of June, across India.

However Unlock 1 would be applicable only in other zones like Red, Green and Orange zone, whereas, the 5th phase of the nation wide lockdown would be applicable to containment zones The containment zones have been identified in 13 worst hit cities of India, which recorded 70% of the total cases of the Novel Coronavirus.

These reopenings of public places may bring a drastic hike in the number of cases from the already existing numbers.

The nation would open in three different phases.  The lockdown 5.0., and Unlock 1 would continue till the 30th of June, following which the Central Government would think of Unlock 2.

Stay tuned for further updates.
