The hesitancy to take the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine doses continues amongst people, due to the fear of the side effects.

Majority of Indian population are yet to receive their vaccine doses against the deadly Wuhan virus. Besides the lack of awareness of the vaccine drives, fear of side effects is a major reason that only 43 crore people received their vaccine doses, of which only 9.54 crores are fully vaccinated.

However, a recent study of the COVID-19 side-effects on humans revealed that nearly 30 % of side effects are due to anxiety and not the vaccine itself.

The effects of taking COVID-19 vaccines are temporary, which actually happens due to anxious behavior.

The Government Panel studying the COVID-19 vaccine side effects, observed that over 30% of the reported adverse events post vaccination seen in India were linked to anxiety.

A report tabled by the National Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFI) Committee has observed that from a case study of people who had been vaccinated and recorded adverse reactions, over 22 people out of 100, suffered from anxiety related reactions.

The reports were based on a recent study conducted between June-July 2021. The final report regarding the same was submitted to the Union Health Ministry on the 8th of July. Later, after studying the report, the Union Health Ministry released the report to the media.

As per the report, issues like sickness, tiredness, body aches and other issues are not at all related to the COVID-19 vaccines. The study also said, mostly the side effects were due to anxious nature to have been found in women compared to men.

According to the media Dr. Rajib Dasgupta, a member of the Government Panel Committee, the World Health Organization (WHO) documents this type of reaction as comprising an “array of symptoms,” including acute stress response and vasovagal reaction, which is when a stressful trigger, the sight of blood or a syringe, causes someone to feel dizzy or faint.

Dr. Dasgupta said, “Anxiety-related disorders are more important and more relevant for high-pressure immunisation campaigns, and that is what we are witnessing in Covid, and more so among women.”

The revelation would help people to understand the main cause of COVID-19 vaccine side effects and would reduce their hesitancy towards receiving the vaccine doses.

Meanwhile, as of now, India has four vaccines available. Two of them are made in India vaccines and the remaining two are foreign vaccines. The two India made vaccines are the Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covishield and the Bharat Biotech International Private Limited manufactured COVAXIN. Among the foreign vaccines, one is the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, manufactured by Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory, Hyderabad, and the second one is the Moderna vaccine manufactured by Pfizer (USA,) which is only on an import basis.
