On the 30th of April, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Anil Baijal took to Twitter and confirmed the news of being COVID-19 positive. He said, “I have tested positive for Covid with mild symptoms. Have isolated myself since the onset of symptoms and all those who were in contact with me have been tested. Will continue to function and monitor the situation in Delhi from my residence.”

Anil Baijal would continue to perform his duty and would be connected virtually.

It is to be noted, Anil Baijal tested positive two days after the National Capital Delhi came under the Governor’s rule. On the 28th of April, the Union Home Ministry notified the GNCTD Act making the LG the Delhi Government or the executive (not titular) head of the Government in Delhi. Under the notified Act, the elected Government of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is no more authorised to take any decision in Delhi. The Chief Minister of Delhi would now have to seek the opinion of LG Anil Baijal before taking any executive decision.

Later, on the 29th of April, Anil Baijal issued fresh notification regarding the rules, making clear how the Delhi Government would function under his rule.

The decision was taken after the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) failed to tackle the current COVID-19 crisis in Delhi.
