In a recent development to the Delhi Tractor rally violence, the Delhi Police issued a lookout notice against the farmer union leaders.

The notice was issued in the recent 26th January violence at Red Fort in New Delhi.

The notices have been issued for 20 farmer union leaders including Yogendra Yadav and Balbir S. Rajewal. The Police asked these leaders to reply within three days.

The Delhi Police on the 28th of January, also issued a notice to Bharatiya Kisan Union spokesperson Rakesh Tikait. They asked him to explain as to why no legal action should be taken against him for violating the protocol with the police with regard to the tractor march on the 72nd Republic Day, the 26th of January.

In regard to the incident, S.N. Shrivastava, the Delhi Police Commissioner said, “No culprit will be spared. 19 accused have been arrested and 50 people have been detained. They are being questioned.”

The Delhi Police registered more than 25 criminal cases under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

The farmer leaders named in the FIR include Medha Patkar, Yogendra Yadav, Darshan Pal, Gurnam Singh Chanduni, Rakesh Tikait, Kulwant Singh Sandhu, Satnam Singh Pannu, Joginder Singh Ugraha, Surjeet Singh Phool, Jagjeet Singh Dalewal, Balbir Singh Rajewal and Harinder Singh Lakhoval.

The farmers who have been protesting against the Centre’s three farm laws called for a tractor rally on the 72nd Republic Day, which led to violence. Soon after the violence, which killed a 27 year old man and left hundreds injured, the Kisan Union called off the tractor rally. The farmer union leaders asked protestors to visit the protest sites, Singhu Border, Tikri Border and other regions of Delhi.

In addition, the farmer groups even cancelled their Budget Day march to the parliament, scheduled on the 1st of March.

They said that the protests against the laws would go on adding hunger strikes and public meetings across India on the 30th of January.

Meanwhile, on the 28th of January, Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister met the injured personnel of the Delhi Police.

The injured policemen are currently at the Sushruta Trauma Centre at Civil lines.

Nearly 400 police personnel were injured on the 26th of January, during the clashes with the protesters.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government blamed the farmer groups for the violence, the opposition parties extended support to the farmers.

Leaders of 16 opposition parties issued a joint statement, in which they said they would boycott the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind’s address in Parliament.

Mr. Kovind is scheduled to address the Parliament on the 30th of January over the farm laws.

The leaders who signed the joint statement include Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Indian National Congress (INC,) Nationalist Congress (NCP) Party President Sharad Pawar, National Conference (NC) patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah and others.

On the other hand, an investigation in the role of farmer leaders in regard to the 26th January violence is underway.
