Kapil Mishra, a former member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP,) on the 17th of August, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
Kapil Mishra joined the BJP in the presence of Manoj Tiwari, the President of the BJP in Delhi and Vijay Goel, a member of the BJP.
Apart from Kapil Mishra, Richa Pandey, the chief of the AAP Women’s Wing, also joined the BJP.
Shyam Jaju, the Vice President of the BJP in Delhi, along with Manoj Tiwari, welcomed both the members.
Manoj Tiwari said, “I welcome Kapil Mishra and Richa Pandey into the BJP and hope they will serve Delhi by following the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and philosophy of Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Syama Prasad Mookerjee.”
The decision of Kapil Mishra to join the BJP came after his recent disqualification from the AAP. On the 2nd of August, Ram Niwas Goel, the Assembly Speaker of Delhi, disqualified Kapil Mishra.
The AAP disqualified Mishra on the grounds of defection under the Anti Defection Law, as he campaigned for the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections, 2019. Later, Mishra filed a petition against his disqualification in the Delhi High Court.
Kapil Mishra filed the petition on the 5th of August and the case was reviewed first on the 9th of August and adjourned till the 4th of September.
