The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on the 21st of September, announced the election dates of the Maharashtra Assembly and Haryana Assembly elections.
Maharashtra and Haryana will conduct their State Assembly elections on the 21st of October for 288 and 90 seats respectively.
On the 21st of September, the ECI conducted a press meet and announced the dates.
The ECI will issue a notification about the same on the 27th of September, whereas the nominations will be open till the 4th of October.
After the nomination process, the EC of individual states will scrutinise the nominations and announce the final nominations on the 5th of October.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is the 7th of October.
Sunil Arora, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC,) announced the dates and urged all the political parties to avoid the use of polyethene and plastic bags during their campaigns.
According to sources, there are a total of 1.82 crore voters registered in Haryana and 8.94 crore voters in Maharashtra.
Apart from Maharashtra and Haryana, other states will also conduct by elections for some of the seats.
The States where the bypolls will be held are Arunachal Pradesh (1 seat,) Assam (4 seats,) Bihar (5 seats,) Chhattisgarh (1 seat,) Himachal Pradesh (2 seats,) Punjab (4 seats,) Karnataka (15 seats,) Tamil Nadu (2 seats,) Sikkim (3 seats,) Uttar Pradesh (11 seats,) Rajasthan (2 seats) and Gujarat (7 seats.)
The results of the Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly elections will be declared on the 24th of October.
