ECI Releases By Elections Schedule Of 11 Rajya Sabha Seats

The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on the 13th of October, announced the schedule of Rajya Sabha by polls.

The Rajya Sabha for 11 vacant seats would be held on the 9th of November.

Of the 11 seats, 10 vacant seats are in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and one in the hill state of Uttarakhand.

The RS polls would take place near to the scheduled date of the Bihar Assembly elections. The three phased Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on the 28th of October, the 3rd of November and the 7th of November. The results of the Bihar assembly polls would be declared on the 10th of November.

In addition, By elections for 60 Assembly constituencies would also be held on the 9th of November.

The term of 11 RS members, including Union minister Hardeep Puri and Congress leaders PL Punia and Raj Babbar, is set to lapse on the 25th of November. 

Chandrapal Singh Yadav, Javed Ali Khan, Arun Singh, Neeraj Shekhar, Ravi Prakash Verma, Rajaram, Ramgopal Yadav and Veer Singh are the other retiring RS members.

The by elections for the Rajya Sabha seats would be held following all the guidelines of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 protocol.

The ECI has asked chief secretaries of poll bound states to ensure all measures to contain the Coronavirus disease.

The results of the Rajya Sabha by elections would be declared on the 11th of November.
