Failing To Kidnap Dalit Girl, Kidnappers Chop Off Her Nose

On the 29th of December, 5 men allegedly tried to kidnap a Dalit girl in Chakkarpur village, Gurgaon.  However, upon failing to do so, they chopped off her nose.

The incident came to light after the Police of Sector 29, Gurgaon, registered a complaint against the accused, identified as Gaurav Yadav, Aakash Yadav, Satish Yadav, Monu Yadav and Leelu Yadav.

According to the registered complaint, Poonam Kumari, the victim, was at her home when the 5 accused entered the house and tried to abduct her.  However, their attempts went in vain as Poonam’s brothers stopped them. The accused thrashed Poonam’s brother and family members and chopped a portion of her nose with a sharp edged weapon.

Diveen Dayal, Poonam’s brother, gave a statement and said, “They are dabangs (strongmen) of the village. They often quarrel with people and force them to pull out or withdraw the case. The did the same with us. We are scared.”  Diveen also mentioned there were 15 to 20 people who came to their residence with an intention to kidnap his sister. While 5 to 6 people entered the residence, the remaining were outside, threatening the neighbours so they could not help the victim’s family.

The reason behind this crime is yet to be ascertained.

Arvind Kumar, the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of the Sector 29 Police Station, said, “We have registered an FIR against the accused under IPC section of 147, 148, 149, 323, 506, 452, 365 and 511 (of the Indian Penal Code [IPC]) and trying to arrest them (sic.)”

An investigation regarding the case is underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
