On Saturday, a day after the Indian Government formally approached the Pakistan Ministry to locate the missing Nizamuddin Dargah Priest and his nephew in their country from Thursday, the family of the missing expressed that they might be in the custody of the Pakistan Intelligence Agency. Asif Ali Nizami, 82, head priest of Dargah and his nephew Nazim Ali Nizami went to Karachi, Pakistan to visit their ailing relative and also several Sufi shrines. After posting pictures at the Datta Darbar Shrine in Lahore, the two priests went missing on Thursday from the airport. Sajid Nizami, son of Afif said, “Nizal Ali was detained at the Lahore airport itself while Asif Ali was allowed to travel to Karachi but he never came out of the airport.”

However, PTI quoted a Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency official who said that they have no idea about the disappearance. He said, “It is not clear whether they have gone with someone on their own or there is some other matter.” This was similar to the statement issued by the official spokesperson Nafees Zakaria of Pakistan. Zakaria had said, “No clues to the missing Indian priests have been found so far. However, we are proactively pursuing the case.” He added, “We have asked all departments concerned to look into the matter.”

Friday, Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister said that the government had taken up this matter with Pakistan. She tweeted: “Indian High Commission in Pakistan has taken up the matter of missing Indians Syed Asif Ali Nizami and Nazim Ali Nizami at the highest level in the Government of Pakistan.”
