First Women Pilots Inducted To The Indian Navy

In a historic day for India, a woman was inducted into the Indian Navy as a pilot. Shubhangi Swaroop from Uttar Pradesh will be flying for the Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft. Three other women joined Swaroop as the first women to be part of the Indian Navy.

Astha Segal from New Delhi, Roopa A. From Puducherry and Sakthi Maya S. from Kerala. The ladies underwent the Naval Orientation course and then passed with flying colors from the Ezhimala Naval Academy. A grand function was conducted for their induction with Naval Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba present.

Shubhangi is a daughter of a Naval Commander and joining the Indian Navy was a dream come true. Shubhangi is the first woman pilot although there have been women officers who worked at the operation level.

The four women will undergo subsequent professional training in their respective branches before officially employed to duty.
