Today morning in New Delhi, the state funeral for Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh will be held. On Saturday, the 98 year old war hero passed away at the Army’s Research and Referral hospital after a cardiac arrest in Delhi.

In honor of the veteran hero, all the national flags on government buildings will fly at half-mast.

Arjan Singh’s body will be carried out on a gun carriage from his home to the funeral site in Delhi Cantonment.

Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman said, “Weather permitting, a fly-past (of Sukhoi-30 fighters) will also be held to honor his memory.”

The Defence Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi both visited the deceased home on Sunday to pay their respects and extend condolences to his family.

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind Tweeted, “Sad at the demise of a great air warrior & Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh. Condolences to his family & IAF community.”

Arjan Singh was the only Air Force officer to be promoted to a five star rank after his brave participation in the 1965 India Pakistan war.

Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa said, “It was to his credit that despite initial setbacks, we were able to ‘overcome and overwhelm’ the enemy and spoil their design to annex Jammu and Kashmir.”
