In Saharanpur, a bizarre incident was reported, in which the sports complex used to cook and store food in a toilet. The matter came to light after a viral video, in which the players were served meals cooked and stored in the toilets, due to a shortage of space.
After the viral video on social media platforms, Mr. Animesh Saxena, the district sports officer in Saharanpur, has been suspended. Notably, on the 16th of September, on the first day of the three-day sub junior girls Kabaddi competition, the players were served half-cooked rice for lunch. They expressed anguish and complaint about the half cooked food and storage in toilets.
On the 20th of September, Tuesday, Mr. Navneet Sehgal, the Additional Chief Secretary of Sports, confirmed the suspension of Mr. Animesh Saxena and assured investigation. In addition, the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Mr. Yogi Adityanath also directed Mr. Rajnish Kumar Mishra, the Additional Deputy Minister of Finance and Revenue, to investigate the incident.
The Directorate of Sports had also sought a reply from the district magistrate on the incident.
