Former RBI DG KC Chakrabarty Passes Away

On the 26th of March, the former Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) K.C. Chakrabarty passed away.   He was 68 years old and died due to a heart attack at his home in suburban Chembur, Mumbai. 

Mr. Chakrabarty was a commercial banker turned central banker. He joined the RBI in 2009 as the Deputy Governor.  He resigned from his post after his term ended in 2014.  At the RBI, he handled a variety of departments including banking regulation and supervision as the DG.  After his resignation, he shifted base to London, where he was posted earlier in his career while working for the Bank of Baroda.

He also served at the state run lenders like Bank of Baroda, Indian Bank and Punjab National Bank. 

Before banking, K.C. Chakrabarty was a teacher at the Banaras Hindu University before entering commercial banking.
