The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is working to establish themselves in Punjab, ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections.
In order to work for the BJP campaigning, to chalk out election strategies, the National BJP unit appointed Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Jal Shakti Minister, to be in charge of the Punjab Assembly elections. The decision was taken unanimously on the 8th of September, Wednesday.
Besides Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the BJP also appointed union ministers like Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri and Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi to handle the Punjab elections. In addition, the Members of Parliament (MPs,) Mr. Vinod Chavda has been appointed as its co-incharges for the Punjab Legislative elections.
The BJP is planning to contest 117 Assembly seats in Punjab against the Indian National Congress (INC) Government.
It is to be noted, winning Assembly elections in Punjab would be a huge hurdle for the ruling Central Government, the BJP. Due to the ongoing farmer’s protest against the three farm laws, the farmers dominated state, Punjab would be a tough region for the BJP. In addition, the BJP also broke ties with the strong political party, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) due to the ongoing farmer’s issue.
With this, to win the Punjab Assembly elections, the BJP needs to fight the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Aam Aadmi Party.
Besides the INC, the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP would also contest the Punjab Assembly elections, scheduled in 2022.
