The Pakistan Government, on the 1st of November, made key announcements for Indian Sikh pilgrims travelling to Gurdwara Darbar Kartarpur Sahib in Narowal district, 4 km from Dera Baba Nanak shrine.
The Kartarpur Sahib gurudwara is in Pakistan, whereas the Dera Baba Nanak shrine is in Punjab, India.
On the 1st of November, Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, announced Indian pilgrims travelling to Kartarpur Sahib need not have a passport.
Imran Khan took to Twitter and said, “For Sikhs coming for a pilgrimage to Kartarpur from India, I have waived off two requirements: i) they won’t need a passport just a valid ID; ii) they no longer have to register 10 days in advance. Also, no fee to be charged on the day of inauguration and on Guruji’s 550th birthday.”
Captain Amrinder Singh, on the 1st of November, welcomed the decision of the Pakistan Government.
After the announcement of the Pakistan Government, Amrinder Singh put forward a request on behalf of the Sikh pilgrims and urged the Pakistan Government not to charge the Indian pilgrims the USD 20 service fee, which every visitor would otherwise be charged.
Apart from this, the Pakistan Government also announced it would soon inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor, which would connect Darbar Sahib in Pakistan and Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
The 9th of November is the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, which is also the day the Kartarpur Corridor is scheduled to be inaugurated.
