Google recently announced the launch of its own online shopping portal in India, Google Shopping. Google Shopping will have a search option, which will help the customers filter products and prices offered by a wide variety of merchants, retailers and dealers.

Google Shopping will be the simplest way to reach sellers across India and to connect retailers and customers. Google Shopping will help create a platform for small retailers who want to showcase their products and enter the world of digital shopping.

The merchants and retailers will list their products on the Google Shopping page, without any ad campaigns and charges.

Surojit Chatterjee, the Vice President Product Management of Google, said, “More than 40 million Indians are coming online every year, and search is an integral part of their online journey. From seasoned desktop shoppers to first time users with entry level smartphones, we hope this new shopping experience will make finding what people are looking for just a little bit easier.”

Mr. Chatterjee further said, “There are an estimated 58 million small and medium businesses (SMBs) in India, of which 35 per cent are engaged in retail trade. However, a very small number of them have an online presence, this is a huge opportunity for retailers to surface their merchandise to the millions of online consumers.”

On its homepage, Google will have a tab named Google Shopping. Google Lens will integrate with Google Shopping to help users search for products such as clothes, home decor, etc. The page will show you various products, the offers associated with the products and the prices at which the products can be bought.

The aim of Google Shopping is to make online shopping easier, affordable and easily accessible by every individual. Google Shopping could give tough competition to other ecommerce platforms such as Flipkart, Myntra, Club Factory and Shein.
