The Government of India (GoI,) on the 2nd of September, banned 118 mobile applications including PUBG.
The decision was taken by the Ministry of Information and Technology of India in the wake of the data security issue. Application which have been blocked are said to be prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, Defence of India, Security of State and Public Order.
In regard to this Ministry of Information and Technology issued a statement, “This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.”
The statement further added, “The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures.”
The latest development came amid the India and China tension over the border issues in Ladakh.
Recently in June, the GoI also banned 59 applications including widely used TikTok, ShareMe, WeChat, UC Browser.
