On the 15th of August, India is celebrating 74th Independence Day. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of the Independence Day, hoisted the National Flag at Red Fort.

Mr. Modi started his day at 7:05 A.M., and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. 

Later at 7:20 A.M., he left for Red Fort for the Independence Day celebration.

Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister of India, received Mr. Modi.

The Prime Minister along with Union ministers and senior leaders hoisted the national flag at 7:30 A.M.

After unfluring the National Flag, PM Modi addressed the Nation. 

Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s speech. 

Prime Minister Modi said,”India is alert, cautious in this context and is taking decisions to face these threats and is also constantly developing new systems. A new national cyber security strategy has been drafted in the country.”

Speaking about home loans, Mr. Modi said, home loan EMI rebates up to Rs. 6 Lakh during payment period.   He said, “Professionals emanating from the middle class make their mark not only in India but in the whole world. The middle class needs opportunity, the middle class needs freedom from government interference. He said, this is also the first time when the EMI of a home loan for your home is getting a rebate of up to Rs 6 lakh during the payment period. Just last year, a fund of 25 thousand crore rupees has been established to complete thousands of incomplete houses.”

Speaking about the success of Jal Jeevan Mission, Mr. Modi said in India today everyday more than one lakh houses are connected by water connection.  Mr. Modi said, ” I had announced the Jal Jeevan Mission last year from this Red Fort.  Today, under this mission, now more than one lakh houses are getting success in connecting with water connection.”

 Speaking on the agriculture sector, PM Modi said, “My dear countrymen, self-reliant India has an important priority – self-sufficient agriculture and self-reliant farmers. To give modern infrastructure to the farmers of the country, a few days ago an ‘Agriculture Infrastructure Fund’ of Rs 1 lakh crore has been created.”

 In addition, Mr. Modi announced free cylinders for 7 crore poor families. PM Modi said, “7 crore poor families were given free gas cylinders, ration cards or not, more than 80 crore people were provided free food, about 90 thousand crores were directly transferred to bank accounts.”

In addition, the Central Government would spend Rs. 100 lakh crore on infrastructure development.  About 7 thousand projects of different sectors have also been identified. 

Mr. Modi also emphasized on self reliance and said, “For how long can we keep sending our raw materials out of our country? In agriculture, we have been able to achieve self-reliance.”  

Mr. Modi also said, “we recently laid the foundation stone for Ram Temple construction in Ayodhya. I laud the way people maintained peace and tranquility.”

Speaking about new India, Mr. Modi said, “In this decade of the 21st century, India will now have to move forward with new policy and new customs.”

Prime Minister also said about the recruitment on borders. He said, “Will recruit 1 lakh new NCC cadets from border areas. Women will constitute one-third of these candidates.”

The Prime Minister also said the Central Government would soon extend fast internet connectivity to Lakshadweep. 

This year the Independence Day celebration was held with caution and arrangements to maintain social distancing. 

Face masks and sanitizers were said to be mandatory for all the dignitaries attending the Independence Day celebrations. 

On the 74th Independence Day, the Central Government is also scheduled to award the President’s Police Medal (PPM) to police personnel for their bravery.
