The Indian Medical Association (IMA) called off their symbolic protest scheduled on the 22nd and 23rd of April.

On the 22nd of April, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Dr. Harshvardhan interacted with the doctors of the IMA and urged them not to protest.  In a video conference Amit Shah assured security and asked the doctors to drop their symbolic protest.

On the 20th of April, the IMA, condemned the violent attacks on the medical staff and wrote, “If the Government fails to enact Central Law on violence against Doctors & Hospitals even after White Alert, IMA will declare Black Day on 23rd April.  All doctors in the country will work with black badges.”

At 9:00 P.M., on the 22nd of April, all doctors and hospitals would light a candle as a symbolic protest or white alert to the Government.

However, after the video conference with Amit Shah and the assurance of full support from the Central Government,  the IMA called off their protest .

Meanwhile, India became the 17th Nation to record 20,000 cases of Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection till the 22nd of April.

In the past 24 hours, India reported 1,383 cases of COVID-19 and 50 fatalities.  Despite the nation wide lockdown the numbers seem to not improve. 

The Union Health Ministry confirmed 16,114 active cases, 3,870 discharged or recovered cases, taking the total positive cases to  19,984  in India. 

Maharashtra has the highest number of positive cases near to 5,218, followed by Gujarat (2,178) and Delhi (2,156.)  Rajasthan has 1,659 cases, Tamil Nadu 1,596 and Madhya Pradesh 1,552.
