On the 13th of October, a delegation of the Indian National Congress (INC) met with Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India.

According to sources, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the INC and other senior leaders of the Party met with the President of India regarding the Lakhimpur incident. During the meeting, Mr. Rahul Gandhi led INC delegation urged Mr. Ram Nath Kovind to dismiss the appointment of Mr. Ajay Kumar Mishra, the Minister of State for Uttar Pradesh (U.P.)

It is to be noted, on the 3rd of October Mr. Ashish Kumar Mishra Teni, the son of U.P., Minister Mr. Ajay Kumar Mishra, allegedly killed 8 people including 4 farmers. He ran over the farmers in Lakhimpur region of Kheri district with a SUV vehicle. However, he denied the allegations, the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) called for the arrest of Mr. Ashish Kumar Mishra Teni and demanded strict action against him.

Political parties like the INC, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) the Samajwadi Party (SP,) the Trinamool Congress (TMC,) the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other political opposition parties extended support to farmers, criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the incident.

The meeting with Mr. Ram Nath Kovind is also a part of the protest, demanding the President of India to intervene in the matter. The delegation of the INC also presented a memorandum of facts about the Lakhimpur Kheri incident to the President.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ashish Mishra Teni, the main accused in the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur, Kheri, Uttar Pradesh was booked under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.) On the 12th of October, he was also taken to the Crime Branch Office (CBO) of Kheri for interrogation in the Lakhimpur incident.

Mr. Ashish Mishra Teni would be in police custody till the 15th of October.
