Ahmed Patel, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress (INC) passed away on the 25th of November.
Ahmed Patel, 71 years, died at 3:30 A.M., at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
According to the hospital, Mr. Patel died due to multiple organ failure. He was undergoing treatment for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, after testing positive for the virus.
After the demise of the senior Congress leader, condolences are coming in from several political leaders and union ministers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and said, “Saddened by the demise of Ahmed Patel Ji. He spent years in public life, serving society. Known for his sharp mind, his role in strengthening the Congress Party would always be remembered. Spoke to his son Faisal and expressed condolences. May Ahmed Bhai’s soul rest in peace.”
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind also took to Twitter and said, “Distressed to know that veteran Congress leader Ahmed Patel is no more. An astute Parliamentarian, Shri Patel combined the skills of a strategist and the charm of a mass leader. His amiability won him friends across party lines. My condolences to his family and friends.”
Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC also expressed grief over the demise of Ahmed Patel. She said, “It is a sad day. Shri Ahmed Patel was a pillar of the Congress party. He lived and breathed Congress and stood with the party through its most difficult times. He was a tremendous asset. We will miss him. My love and condolences to Faisal, Mumtaz & the family.”
Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and other INC leaders also mourned Mr. Patel’s demise on Twitter.
P. Chidambaram, a senior leader of the INC, said, “I first met @ahmedpatel in May of 1984. He & Oscar Fernandes were Joint Secy’s in AICC & used to sit towards rear of the building. A bond evolved over the years. 36 years later I never ever thought I would have to Tweet my condolences. He was a noble soul. RIP Sir @mfaisalpatel. (sic.)”
The last rites of Mr. Patel would be held at his native village Bharuch, Gujarat.
Before the last rites in Bharuch, the mortal remains of Mr. Patel would be brought to his residence in Delhi.
Political leaders and ministers would pay their last respects.
