Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 15th of August, hoisted the national flag and addressed the people of India, at Red Fort, Delhi.

This is the first Independence Day celebration of Prime Minister Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) after coming to power for a second term in India.

The Independence Day celebration started at 7:30 A.M., with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the 6th time, hoisted the tricolour as the Prime Minister of India. 

Narendra Modi spoke about Jammu and Kashmir, Article 370, floods in different states and cities, water conservation, reducing the use of plastic bags and other initiatives of the BJP Government.

During the speech, he also mentioned about some of the initiatives undertaken by the Government of India (GoI,) such as ‘One Nation, One election,’ ‘One Nation, One Ration Card,’ ‘One Nation, One Tax’ and ‘One Nation, One Constitution.’

Mr. Modi spoke about the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and praised the GoI for the same.

Narendra Modi said, “For 70 years, every government tried to address the problem in Jammu and Kashmir but it was his Government who finally made the move.”

Today, on the 15th of August, India celebrates its 73rd Independence Day.  Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India and other members of the Indian Cabinet will also address the Nation.

After the speeches, soldiers of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force will be honoured with awards for their bravery.

The event is being broadcasted live on Doordarshan National  and All India Radio.
