India is all set to take over the United Nation (U.N.,) Security Council Presidency on the 1st of August. With this, India would be the host of the events held in the major areas of maritime security, peacekeeping and counterterrorism during the month of August.
The representative of India to the U.N., Ambassador, T.S.Tirumurti, said, “It is a singular honour for us to be presiding over the Security Council the same month when we are celebrating our 75th Independence Day.” In a video message, he said, ”
It is to be noted, the 1st of August, Monday would be the first working day of India’s Presidency at the UN Security Council. On the next day, the 2nd of August, India would hold a press conference and brief about the Council’s programme of work for the month of August.
According to sources, India is working as a non permanent member of the Security Council, which started from the 1st of January 2021. In addition, it would be the first time India would hold the Presidency of the U.N., Security Council, during the tenure of 2021-2022.
After this month, in December 2022, India would again hold the presidency of the Security Council. December 2021 would also be the last month of India’s tenure as the non permanent member of the Council.
Highlighting the role of India as the United Nations Security Council Presidency, Mr. T.S.Tirumurti said, India would work with a progressive approach to fight terrorism, being peace and ensure security. The Nation would also ensure to bring all the councils together and speak to resolve various issues at the Council.
India would take over the Presidency of the United Nations Security Council on the 1st of August, 2021.
