The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases in India are increasing once again. From below 13,000 cases to above 15,000 cases, India is witnessing a surge.
In the past 24 hours, India reported as many as 16,577 COVID-19 cases and 120 deaths.
The majority of cases are being reported from 5 states, which are Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. These states are under scrutiny of the Central Government.
The new updated case data was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the 26th of February. The data regarding the same was updated on the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)
With this, the total coronavirus caseload in the Country is 1,10,63,491, of which 1,55,986 are active cases and 1,07,50,680 discharged/recovered cases. The death toll due to the Novel Coronavirus is at 1,56,825.
In addition, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) informed, so far 21,46,61,465 samples have been tested for COVID-19, including 8,31,807 samples tested on the 26th of February. The Central Government also directed the Union Health Department to conduct more tests of Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the Indian Government rolled out a nationwide Coronavirus vaccination drive. The drive started from the 16th of January across India and vaccinated 1,34,72,643 people till date.
The vaccination drive with two India made vaccines are being carried out in a phased manner. In the first phase front line warriors (sanitation staff and medical people) were vaccinated. In the second phase, police personnel are being administered the vaccines and the third phase is scheduled to begin from the 1st of March.
The Government of India aims to vaccinate the entire population of India (133 crore people) and make Indians vaccinated from the deadly COVID-19.
The two vaccines which are being given to the people are the Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covishield and the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited manufactured COVAXIN.
