India Is Now Seventh Worst Hit COVID-19 Nation With 1.90 Lakh Plus Cases

Till the 1st of June, India registered a total of 1,90,535 cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infections.

Confirmed by the Union Home Ministry, during the past 24 hours, India reported the biggest spike of 8,392 cases and 230 deaths.  In India, deaths due to the Novel Coronavirus reached to 5,408.

With these updates, India is now the 7th worst hit nation, leaving Germany (1.82 lakh cases) and France (1.88 lakh cases) behind.

This is the second day when the number of cases crossed 8,000 in just 24 hours.   

Maharashtra still remains the worst hit State in India and recorded 67,655 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu 22,333, Delhi with 19,844 cases and Gujarat 16,794.

 States with cases below 10,000 are Rajasthan (8,831,) Madhya Pradesh (8,089) Uttar Pradesh (8,075) and West Bengal (5,501.)

States which recorded cases under 5,000, are Bihar (3,807,) Andhra Pradesh (3,571,) Karnataka (3,221,) Telangana (2,698,) Jammu and Kashmir (2,446,) Punjab (2,263,) Haryana (2,091) Odisha (1,948) Assam (1,340) and Kerala (1,270.)

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by the Central Government, announced Unlock 1, from the 1st of June.  

After 4 lockdowns, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government has now announced reopening of shops, malls and other closed places in a phased manner.

The 1st phase of the Unlock 1 would begin from the reopening of restaurants, religious places and shopping malls from the 8th of June.

However, the openings are not allowed in containment zones of 13 worst hit COVID-19 cities of India, which includes, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi/New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Thane, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata / Howrah, Indore , Jaipur, Jodhpur, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur. These cities recorded 70 % of the total cases of the Novel Coronavirus.

The state governments would decide the containment zones in these cities and would impose strict lockdown guidelines in the aforementioned cities.

The Unlock 1 or lockdown 5.0., began from the 1st of June and is proposed to end on the 30th of June.
