India on Wednesday recorded 90,123 new cases of the coronavirus disease, according to Union health ministry update. The total number of cases now stand at 5,02,0359.
The number of active cases have reached close to the million-mark; it’s currently at 9,95,933, according to the health ministry. The active cases have increased by 5,872 in the last 24 hours. Nearly four million patients (39,42,360 to be exact) have recovered and discharged from hospitals.
The active cases in the country account for 19.84 per cent of the total caseload.
The country recorded 1,290 fatalities during the said period which took the death toll to 82,066, according to health ministry update.

States like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh continue to report highest number of active cases, accounting for 60 per cent of the total cases in the country.
Maharashtra and Karnataka are also among the two states reporting the highest number of deaths in the last 24 hours. While 515 people succumbed to the viral contagion in Maharashtra, 216 died in Karnataka, the health ministry’s data stated.
