India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 3,04,58,251 with 46,617 new infections being reported in a day, while the recoveries have crossed 2.95 crores, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on the 2nd of July.
The death count increased to 4,00,312 with 853 new fatalities, the data updated at 8:00 A.M., showed.
India, the world’s second-most populous nation, recorded 853 deaths in the past 24 hours, health ministry data showed on Friday. That took it past the 400,000 mark, with the last 100,000 being added in just 39 days, according to a Reuters news agency tally.
But health experts believe India may have undercounted deaths significantly and the actual number could have reached one million or even higher.
Active cases of Covid-19 in the country continued to decline and were logged at 509,637 on Friday. The cumulative recoveries in the country have also continued to outnumber the daily new infections for 50 days in a row. On Friday, at least 59,384 people recovered, taking the national recovery rate to 96.97%.
